An Announcement to Our Friends & Fans
After more than a decade of good times, great music, and memories we'll carry forever, the Memphis Rub Band has officially disbanded as of April 2026. This has not been an easy decision, and it is one we did not make lightly. To every fan who packed a dance floor, sang along at the top of their lungs, or simply shared a beer with us after a show — thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
The Memphis Rub Band was never just a band. It was a community. From the early days grinding out gigs on Anna Maria Island to appearing at BayFest and every parking-lot stage, listening room, and festival lawn in between, you showed up for us time and again. We hope we gave you something worthy of that loyalty.
A Few Final Shows
The last chapter isn't quite written yet. We still have a couple of New Year's Eve private parties on the books (2026 and 2027), and we will continue to be open to some festival appearances and select listening-room performances.
What's Next for the Band
While the Memphis Rub Band closes this chapter, the music lives on through each of its members. We are incredibly proud of what every one of these guys brings to the world, and we can't wait to see what comes next for them.
Gary Drouin
Gary will keep the blues burning bright. He'll continue performing and crafting his handbuilt Hurricane Amplifiers — boutique tone machines built with the same passion he brings to every note he plays. Watch his website HurricaneAmplifiers.com for new amp builds and products.
Scott Matzke
Scott will carry the groove down to Holmes Beach, where he'll remain a fixture at the beloved Jam On The Sand. If you want to catch Scott in his element, that's the place to be — sun, sand, and some seriously good bass.
David Wells
David is a musician's musician, and he'll keep right on proving it. You can expect to find him behind the kit with various artists and ensembles around the Suncoast and also in Pittsburgh, PA. Wherever the gig calls, David answers.
Dan Ryan
Dan is taking a haitus from performing live music. He's stepping into a new spotlight: continuing to raise his two amazing teenagers but now as a proud single dad, while building a career at the fascinating intersection of AI model training and voice acting. His voice isn't going anywhere — it's just finding new rooms to fill.
The Music Will Always Be There
Our recordings aren't going anywhere. You can still stream our 2022 Firehouse album from this website, and purchase our 2018 Taste album wherever music lives online. They are a snapshot of what we built together, and we're proud of every track.
From the first note to the last, playing music for you has been the greatest honor. The Memphis Rub Band may be stepping off the stage, but the spirit of what we shared — the joy, the dancing, the community — that doesn't end with a final set.
With deep gratitude and genuine love,
Gary • Scott • David • Dan
